Bentley has worked as a director at JN Bentley since 1999, when Motts and Bentley first formed their successful JV, and will continue in that role alongside his new group-wide responsibilities.

Mott MacDonald bought JN Bentley in 2014 and now delivers much of its work through the fully integrated design and build arm Mott MacDonald Bentley.

Under Bentley’s leadership as managing director, the firm has grown into one of the country’s most successful design and build contractors in the water sector, working for clients including Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water and Northumbrian Water.

Across JN Bentley and its design and build companies MMB and JBA Bentley, annual revenue now exceeds £500m.

Paul Bentley brings more than 30 years of industry experience, having started his career as a graduate civil engineer before progressing through site-based and commercial roles including site engineer, contracts manager and estimator before moving into senior leadership.

James Harris, chair and chief executive of Mott MacDonald, said: “Under Paul’s leadership, JN Bentley and its design and build companies have established reputations for operational excellence, continuous improvement and an unwavering commitment to health and safety.

“He is recognised for creating high-performing teams and forging long-term client relationships, particularly in the UK water sector. I look forward to working closely with him on the executive board as we continue to grow and deliver for our clients.”

Bentley said: “Joining Mott MacDonald’s executive board gives me the opportunity to contribute more widely to the group’s success, ensuring we continue to deliver for clients, create opportunities for our people and maintain the standards that set us apart.”
